The Forum on Antiviral Treatment of Influenza took place on Thursday 14th June, at 6.00pm.
Awareness of the burden of influenza on public health continues to develop in the Asia-Pacific region, however there is no consensus on the best way to prevent and treat the disease and to ensure that policies for the use of seasonal influenza vaccines and specific treatments are in place.
Forum speakers included Professor Paul Chan (HK), Dr Allison McGeer (Canada), Dr Nelson Lee (HK) and Dr Tawee Chotpitayasunondh (Thailand). Topics will included:
Lessons learned from 2009 pandemic:
- Safety and efficacy for pregnant women, and children.
- Prophylactic use.
Therapeutic use:
- Severity of disease in elderly patients.
- Treatment efficacy for seasonal influenza among hospitalized adult patients.
Policy:
- Review the official influenza control policies of Asia-Pacific countries.
